Iced Tea is the drink of the summer. It's becoming more and more popular in the UK but as the home of tea it's surprising that iced tea is associated with the US instead!
So it begs the question; where did iced tea begin! Tea has been grown in the US since the 1600s when British Colonists arrived in the south. The first iced tea recipe found actually contained alcohol and was published in 1839. After this recipes containing lemon, sugar and black tea were published in cookbooks in 1876. It became a household favourite across the South, probably due to the hot weather.
The commissioner for tea in India traded at the 1904 Worlds Fair in St. Louis, US and due to it being such a hot day, decided to add ice cubes to his tea. It went down a treat and caught the attention of restauranteurs across the US. The first dedicated iced tea companies were born soon after. Fast forward 120 years and we started our own, with deliciously tasty flavours and a lot less of the sugar!
